Strengths are characteristics of the business or project that give it an advantage over others, Weaknesses are characteristics that place the business or project at a disadvantage relative to others, Opportunities are elements that the project could exploit to its advantage, and Threats are elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project.
2.2 PESTLE Analysis.
When people think of rail or metro travel, they think of trains. They do not think about the infrastructure of the train network. This consists of countless bridges, viaducts, embankments buildings. But, there are a lot of barricades that come in the way of such a massive undertaking. A PESTLE analysis will help us understand the external environment in context with which the Bangalore Metro project is operating. It will help in targeting the environmental factors that are out of the scope of the project, but, can affect it.
Political Factors.
Bringing in such massive changes in a city's transportation means has a massive political undercurrent. Ever since the mid 1990's boom experienced in India due to expanded industrialization, car ownership has increased. This has also caused public sector transport systems to dwindle and suffer losses in most major Indian cities with the exception of Mumbai and to some extent, Kolkata. This, some economists believe is one of the leading causes of dwindling in the completion of such projects. Further cuts to such transport services would save money, but, increase social hardships and effect the environment by putting more cars on the road. Hence, investing more amounts and with better planning needs to be done to deliver social and environmental benefits doing justice to the taxpayer's money. .
Economics Forces.
In economics terms, metros operate with the same financial discipline as any other large company. The company does not give dividends, but, does aim to make a profit.
