Mattress Company Business Plan

These problems have led to increase in mattress recycling. Since 80-90% of a mattress can be recovered or reused recycling is a viable option for mattress disposal. Some states have passed regulations requiring mattress recycling and many more are considering similar regulations. In 2013, Connecticut became the first state to adopt laws requiring mattress recycling. These regulations place the responsibility of mattress disposal on the mattress manufacturing companies. Using the recycling system fees are added to the purchase price of the mattress at the point of purchase and then the money is transferred to the mattress manufacturer to cover the costs of recycling.
             The mattress industry is also subject to other federal regulations such as flammability standards and general conformity standards. Flammability standards are issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and can be found in federal regulation 16 CFR Sec. 1632 and 1633. Manufacturers and importers of mattresses are also subject to general conformity regulations, which include acquiring a general conformity certificate and a children's product certificate. The children's product certificate ensures that children's products meet applicable safety regulations such as lead and phthalates levels. .
