Counseling: Case Study

In 1985, the leadership of Oriana House realized, that by only providing in-jail services did not bring treatment full circle in that there was no post-incarceration facet to the services that the agency offered. To these ends, the organization opened a half-house facility that would serve as a mechanism to offered continued services that also included making employment and educational services available to those reentering the community (OrianaHouse.org, 2012).
Another facet was added just a few years later when the operation extended services to those convicted of DUI offenders and for the first time in its history, female residency was created. During the same time, the center began to offer treatment of chemical dependency. What is interesting to note about this organization is that from its inception through today, it has collaborated with the criminal justice system. The partnership between Oriana House and the local and state authorities have allowed innovative programs to develop such as in-home incarceration, drug testing taking place at the center, and bail supervision, which dramatically reduced local jail overcrowding. Other innovative programs that have resulted from the collaboration between Oriana House and local governmental agencies day reporting for those convicted of a crime but did not need residential housing. One could conclude that such agencies represent an alternative to traditional models that found little to no rehabilitation or treatment taking place for those convicted of a drug related crime. As stated, in the agencies thirty years of operation, it service offering has increased to over twenty-five programs. Unfortunately, the agency now faces a number of issues that are now hindering the ability to serve the masses of people dependent to drugs and alcohol.
             Problem Statement.
The problem for Oriana House is straight forward. Throughout its history, the facility and treatment programs catered to those who do not have medical insurance.
