             GLOSSARY.
TANAKH: An acronym for the cannon of the Jewish Bible and that book which Christians call the Old Testament. It is derived from the names of the three divisions that Jews recognize as comprising the entire bible. Those divisions are, (transliterated into English), Torah, (also called the Pentateuch by non-Jews), Nevi'im, (the Prophets), and Kethuvim, (The writings, or historical books). For a complete listing of all of the books in the Tanakh please refer to appendix A.
Israel: The name given by G-d to Jacob after his all night wrestling match with an angle, also, the name given to his descendants the Jewish People, and the modern day nation of Israel.
