This room is entirely lined and roofed with granite. From the chamber two narrow shafts run obliquely through the masonry to the exterior of the pyramid. Above the King's Chamber are five compartments separated by massive horizontal granite slabs; the likely purpose of these slabs was to shield the ceiling of the burial chamber by diverting the immense thrust exerted by the overlying masses of masonry.
The Khufu pyramid of Egypt, also known as the Great Pyramid, is arguably the most colossal single building ever erected on the planet. The question of how the pyramids were built has not received a wholly satisfactory answer. The most plausible one is that the Egyptians employed a sloping and encircling embankment of brick, earth, and sand, which was increased in height and in length as the pyramid rose; stone blocks were hauled up the ramp by means of sledges, rollers, and levers. Some have seriously hypothesized a massive chant in which the blocks were vibrated into place. However, my favorite theory is that of extraterrestrial assistance in the creation of the pyramids. .
According to an ancient Greek historian, Herodotus, the Great Pyramid took twenty years to build and the labor of over 100,000 men. Conversely to Herodotus's claim of a 100,000 labors archaeologists of the 20th century have suggested that as few as 20,000 workers would have been adequate to do the task. Whether it took 100,000 or 20,000 to erecting the world's most phenomenal structure is really no importance to its glory. However what this debate does show us is how little that we actually know and understand about the creation of this extraordinary monument. .
