Green Party, participation in Government Dilemmas

The greens in places such as Slovenia and the Ukraine, found the Soviet Union accountable for their own environmental problems. Anticommunist coalitions were exploited by politicians in theses regions as a way of alluring voters. As an inclusion, a brief overview will be given, purporting the development of this event as a significant factor in western European, Green political change.
What follows is a conceptual framework, of the major dilemmas confronting Green parties, seeking influence in government. There is little scope to define what constitutes green politics in this essay, the various arguments and discussions on principles such as ecology; grass-root democracy and social justice have been well documented in the past.
Green parties first appeared as a response to the post-industrial crisis that had engulfed Europe in the 1970's and 1980's. They concentrated on single issue environmental campaigns during this time, becoming involved in local and regional government. However the collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent economic recession during the 1990's gave a new impetus to green politics in Europe. The radical society envisioned by such parties seemed an appealing alternative to the existing, political, economic and social establishments. The distrust of mainstream politics allowed other movements such as the extreme-right to manifest themselves into the national and international conscious. In Eastern Europe civil strife and economic underperformance, was met with disillusionment from the public. Green parties played a key role in the transition process to a new political elite. Their anti-communist views were welcomed by politicians who encouraged them to participate in coalitions, so that votes could be attained. The most important assumption that can be made from this is that, green parties in Eastern Europe came into power under specific conditions, that is to say, when it was in the interest of the foremost political forces.
