Classroom Management Plan

I had not learned or been persuaded to learn and I was behind other students who had been taught correctly. My basketball coach, Mike Pittman, always preached he would rather be respected than liked and I too feel the same way. You may not like me, but to respect me means a lot more. I then feel that after being respected you will in turn be liked.
I coached basketball in high school the last two years, and since coaching is teaching I believe the experience I gained will help me when I get my classroom. I was coaching guys I had played with and some I had not. I had already gained their respect in earlier years as a player and a friend. They knew when I was coaching there were times to be friends and goof off, but when it was time to listen and pay attention they did. I feel that it is the same way with students and their teachers. There is a time to cut-up and have fun and there are also times to pay attention and be serious. As long as both the teacher and the students understand this there should not be a big problem. I believe these things fall under having a well-managed classroom. The students know when it is okay to be a little noisy and to have fun, as well they know when it is uncalled for, and they understand the importance of getting their work finished. If you have earned the respect from your class, plus you in turn respect them you should have a great classroom setting.
I am going to be a Physical Education teacher so I don't see my classes being like all the traditional classroom settings. I will have an organized setting in which students come in and sit, but that organized setting may change from class to class. I plan on letting my students have freedom and help in deciding as a class how they want to be organized. In P.E. there is usually not a whole lot of sitting around, so this part may not be a major concern. However, I do want my class to be fun and rewarding and to do this will call for some type of organization by me.
