Although the Mayan, Aztec and Incan civilizations achieved many great accomplishments, they did not overcome the great achievements of empires many years before. Earlier empires have even outshined these civilizations in these ancient achievements. For instance, The Roman Empire lasted many more years than the Aztecs or Incas because of their more successful government along with many other reasons. The Aztecs and Incas were dominant in managing their governments, however the Roman government was greatly more competent. .
One of the great achievements of the Mayans that did not exceed earlier empires was the Mayan pyramid temple in Tikal. The Tikal pyramid was the tallest structure in the Americas, but not around the globe (Doc 1). The Egyptian pyramids are much more remarkable. These renowned structures outdid the pyramid in Tikal in size and architectural aptitude. Although the Incan ruins of Machu Picchu are very notable and shows great building design, the Roman columns and Egyptian pyramids greatly surpassed them (Doc 7). .
The Mayans developed a hieroglyphic writing system. They also invented a calendar that used glyphs as symbols (Doc 2). On the other hand, the Egyptians had a writing system and calendar hundreds of years before the Mayans. The Egyptian hieroglyphic writing system was also much better and understood by the people. .
The conquers of the Mayans, Incans, and Aztecs were very significant, but again are vanquished by the Roman Empire years before. The Roman Empire fell because of internal conflicts, when the Mesoamerican civilizations all collapsed due to exterior factors. For example, the invasion of the Spaniards of the Aztec civilization as well as the rebels against the civilization were the weaknesses of the Aztec that lead to their decline as a civilization (Doc 3). .
Tenochtitlan was the Aztec capital. It is outstanding for it's well-known markets and trading places (Doc 4).
