FCC

The Federal Communications Commission adopted standards for equipping televisions and computers that contain TV tuners with the v-chip blocking technology. The v-chip lets viewers block shows based on their TV ratings for sexual content, violence and objectionable language. A 1996 law requires that televisions sold in the United States with screens 13 inches and larger must eventually have the blocking technology built in. Also, there is another system that FCC came up with to control and inform people on what they are watching before they watch it. Basically what happens is there is a rating system that has ratings almost just like in the movies to show what level of violence, sex and language content in the program. .

             FCC doesn't really have opponents, the only opponents that they have are the people who don't agree with FCC and their laws. One good example would be Don Wildmon who is a president of American Family Association. Him and other 15 national pro-family groups and organizations argued Federal Communications Commission to stop and act on some of the TV content on national television. One quote that says "We are tired of the network's constant bombardment of illicit and promiscuous sex. We want something done." Also, Wildmon says the networks are out of control. "At almost every turn, network programs are promoting the total opposite of what most parents want for their children. Because they continue to ignore our pleas for common decency, we must encourage parents to appeal to those who are accountable for allowing it."              A tremendous amount of organizations and families have argued that FCC just isn't doing enough to stop today's TV shows and movie makers from the content they are exposing to views all across the nation. I believe that the entertainment business thrives on controversies and the stronger it is the more attention it gets from media and viewers.
