The novel that I chose to explore is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. The novel is written as a science fiction. The story takes place in a futuristic American city where books are prohibited and loathed by the common society. The people in the community live a fast pasted life style where each individual's imagination is only limited to the ideas granted by the television. The whole story surrounds the innocent life of a fireman named Guy Montag. Montag belongs to the local team of firemen who wears the helmet emblazoned with the numeral 451 and often wears a black uniform with a salamander on his arm as a symbolism of the great firemen. He takes a great deal of pride of his occupation and enjoys the sensation of burning books, which can be depicted by his earlier dreams. Montag is often impulsive, inarticulate and self-obsessed to the point where he promptly set his supervisor on fire. He is also very sensitive to the endless facts about books and other reading materials. While at the same time, indifferent to human feelings especially his wife, Mildred's senseless actions. The other major character who fulfills the other side of the story board is Captain Beatty. He is the chief of the fire station who also happens to wear the black uniform with the same salamander. Beatty is in charge of burning books, but at the same time possesses a vast knowledge on different types of literature. Beatty is very articulate and passionate, which is shown through his conversation with Montag regarding the origins of books and using many evocative quotes to baffle Montag's thoughts and ideas. He is sympathetic about his understandings of the universe and the ways people live without any distractions or cruelty. Captain Beatty's dedications and loyalty toward his job as well as the community may well establish his eminent figure as leader of the society. .
The minor characters of the story contribute various sensitivity, knowledge and perhaps even love into this amazing fairy tail.
