In many cases, women are unsure what to think of the predicament they are in and need to hear their friends" opinions so that they can form their own. My cousin Jaymie and I are very close. She knows me inside and out, every secret I have ever had, and every emotion I have ever felt. She is like my living diary. When something good or bad happens to me, I immediately say, "Oh my gosh, I need to talk to Jaymie," because I, like many women, need to talk about my feelings and hear the opinion of another. We often ask: "What do you think of this situation?" "What would you do in my position?" Females need to feel support and sympathy. However, this can also be a bad thing. Females often tend to want to know too much that gossip becomes a problem. In high school, a rumor was passed so rapidly without anyone stopping and thinking of its validity. For those reasons, I experienced lots of drama and concluded that having a group of all girl friends was not for me, so I decided to ditch the big group of girls and keep just the close few. .
Since high school ended, I have made so many more guy friends than I have girl friends. With high school drama over and done, I have realized that males are much more laid back and easy to understand, similar to their communication style. As the book describes, their language reflects their interest in conversation as opposed to females" need for it. Males communicate about current events or things on their mind, not usually dealing with relationships. This is definitely a true description of most men. In my old group of girl friends, I would get phone calls to simply talk about things going on in our lives, sometimes lasting for hours. With my new guy friends, their phone calls consist of asking me two things: what I am doing and if I want to meet up with them to hang out.
