College Alcoholism

            There are many different topics that can be chosen to research. I think if I had to choose a social issue, I would choose alcoholics who are college students. This is a very big social issue even though we don't realize it right away. The methods would be very useful to help me find a conclusion. First I would have to state a hypothesis. A hypothesis is an educated guess of what you think the result of your experiment would be. My hypothesis would be that many college students do drink heavily. A lot of the students drink because of social status, because everyone else is doing it. I would also guess that a lot of students drink because alcoholism runs in their family. First to approach this experiment, I would use the survey method to first see the causes of why the students drink. I would pass around anonymous surveys asking students: How often do you drink?, Do you enjoy drinking?, Is anyone in your family an alcoholic?, When did you start drinking?, and other questions along those lines. .
             Some of my finding and conclusions might be the obvious, almost all college students drink. Whether or not they drink heavily would depend on the individual. I would make a graph of my findings from the survey. I would also make charts showing the percentage of students that I researched that are drinkers compared to those who are not. The survey method would be the best approach to get honest answers out of college students.
