Jefferson-Hamilton Feud Impacts Today

.
The fundamental beliefs of the modern day Republicans and Democrats have their foundation back to Jefferson and Hamilton's feud. The modern day Republicans (formerly Democratic-Republicans) still believe in a weak central government and the Democrats (formerly the Federalists) still believe in a strong central government. Even though there are some fundamental differences, the two parties are similar when it comes to important decisions.
Alexander Hamilton's fiscal plan was to take on states debt in their entirety. This was to create national unity. It was Hamilton's belief the more people who had stock in the welfare of the country, the more people who had a reason for the country to succeed. Accumulating the national debt did not please states like Virginia but in turn Washington D.C. would be located on the Potomac.
Hamilton decided to favor the extremely wealthy when it came to taxes. The wealthy would in turn support the government with monetary support and the wealth would trickle down to common people. It is a simple plan. The wealthy would have more money to spend. They would buy from the middle class, giving more money to the middle class. The middle class would need the lower class to man the factories and sell the products, so the lower class would have more money.
Today, the national debt is outrageous. It has already accumulated six trillion and is increasing on an average $1.57 billion per day. The current population is approximately 290,000,000 citizens meaning that each citizen's share is $23,000. That is outrageous and it all started back with Hamilton.
Favoring the wealthy is not in the past. In the last couple of years Bush proposed a tax cut for the top fifteen percent with the hope that the money would trickle down. Reagan also proposed the trickle down effect in hopes of raising the country's revenue and prompting more trade. Both of these have their roots with Hamilton's theory.
