In The Great Gatsby there are two characters that are very much alike. These two characters are Jay Gatsby and Myrtle Wilson. Both of these characters focus on their hopes and dreams on winning the love of a person they cannot have. Jay Gatsby's dream woman is Daisy Buchanan. Myrtle on the other hand, has made herself believe that the very wealthy Tom Buchanan husband of Daisy will divorce Daisy and marry her. These two characters are neither good nor bad, yet they are blinded by their obsessions and the things that they believe will bring them true happiness. .

To rekindle the relationship they once had he wears the finest imported clothing to impress Daisy, because he knows of her love for money. Another thing he does is buy a very expensive home just to be close to Daisy. "Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay"" (83). Gatsby goes to the extremes to be near his love Daisy.
The other character we come across with is Myrtle Wilson. Myrtle is having an affair with Tom Buchanan. Myrtle is married to George Wilson who owns a garage. Since Wilson's business is not very successful, he unable to afford the finer things in life for Myrtle. Myrtle's dream was to replace Daisy. Unfortunately life had other plans. " her life violently extinguished, knelt in the road and mingled her thick, dark blood with the dust" (145). .
Due to this tragedy, Myrtle's dream is not fulfilled. .
