Time management is an important aspect of any career, whether the person stays at home or works for the general public. I was always under the assumption that I spent my time productively and spent little time on wasted activities. I can now confirm it after completing the project given in this course. The productivity that I give to my job averaged 88% while 12 % was unproductive. This has proven to me that I waist time throughout the day, instead of managing time.
In the beginning, the lesson asked to project the time we spent in five various categories of our choice, which you will see be the attached spreadsheet. My forecasted numbers fell short of the actual time spent in each area except for two, email/phone and planning. I forecasted one percent planning time, and during the three-day review I equaled one percent in planning. I truly believe that an optimal amount of time should be anywhere from three to five percent which equates between fifteen and 30 minutes on an eight hour day. If I were to adhere to a well-constructed plan for my day, I truly believe it will help with my time management skills.
This evaluation, however, is not accurate. Knowing that I was watching what I was doing, I believe my time is more positive than normal. It would seem that someone else would have to do the time study of my work to get an actual account of my work habits. Even with this in mind, it has shown me that there is still plenty of room for improvement. One such area of improvement would be by reducing my trivial (C) time and making the wasted (D) time non-existent.
