This is proven by the number of citizens incarcerated for drug related crimes and offenses, the amount of drug related deaths, surveys and polls taken among teenagers of their drug experimentation and drug use, and how easily drugs have become available on the black market. .
5. When considering the values involved with drug use and drug policy, greed is a common value seen on both sides of the table. Our culture's attitude toward materialism, money, and power as a representation for success, drives us to turn to drugs. Drugs symbolize power, status, and freedom. Drugs can help people achieve their desired status, and more power. Ultimately, the desire for the drug is worth the risk of being caught. In reality, the risk of getting caught is extremely slim. A small percentage of all drug crimes do get caught, so fear of the law is small. Therefore, drug use continues and the addicts are rarely scared by the actions taken to stop abuse. In addition, many people are willing to risk getting caught, because the benefits of drugs outweigh the risks. .
