There is much stigma attached to the words Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual. These words are terms that in the following pages I believe will have their stigma removed from you the reader. There are many stereotypes attached to the gay community, and many misconceptions about the existence of gay communities in areas such as ours. These stereotypes are reinforced over time by many mediums including film and TV. .
My hypothesis for my observation, which will be conducted in two parts at two different "alternative" clubs, is that the idea of a "typical" homosexual is as misleading as the idea of a "typical" heterosexual. I believe my observations will show that people attending the two clubs will engage in many of the same activities and interactions as their heterosexual counterparts. .
I need to quickly go over a few terms and items of interest before I get into the core of my observation. I will be using several terms that might not be familiar to the reader, and in an effort to speed up the reading of this paper I will define a few terms and give the historical relevance of the name of one of the clubs. Also in this section I will give a brief detail of the local gay community in relation to organizations and public appearance. .
