Imagine an empire where peace and stability finally overruled war and chaos. The Roman empire was much like this. After years and years of war the empire was finally uniting. Stretching from Spain to Syria and Scotland to Egypt, the empire was flourishing in their culture, religion, literature, and arts. However, this, as had before, would not last long. In A.D. 192 the empire went on a spiraling ride downwards. The decline lasted for approximately 300 years until A.D. 476 when it finally collapsed. There were a number of problems which led to the empires downfall. One of the leading factors was that the people had become disloyal to the empire and very different than they had been years before. Another major reason was that there were political and economical decays. And also, the military had drastically weakened, which made a huge difference. The fall of the Roman Empire was not based on just one problem, but actually a numerous amount of problems.
The people proved to be one of the key factors of the empires" downfall. The rich had drastically separated themselves from the poor. There was now a huge difference between the poor and rich. It was much greater than in past years. Rome had turned their backs on the common man. The poor as well as the rich had developed a low confidence in the empire. If the empire wouldn't be loyal to them then they wouldn't be loyal to the empire. Hardly anyone would sacrifice their lives for it anymore. A great number of Christians were being prosecuted for their beliefs. The people didn't support their empire anymore. .
Political and economical decays greatly weakened the empire. The empire had been divided by Diocletian, an army leader who became an emperor, into an eastern half and a western half. The eastern half, which was Greek-speaking, became much wealthier because it included most of the great cities of the empire and trade centers.
