When Squealer, a propagandist, changes the Commandments one by one, he changes the meaning underlying the revolution completely.
The first commandment to change is "No animal shall sleep in a bed" which changes to .
"No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets" after the pigs moved into the farmhouse. Some of the animals seem to remember a resolution that had been passed against this which was that no animals should enter the farmhouse. Nevertheless, Squealer convinced them this was not the case. He told the animals it was totally necessary for the pigs who were "the brains of the farm" to have a "quiet place to work in". What is more, the pigs had taken to sleeping in beds, Clover noticed this, and fetched Muriel to read her the Commandments, as he was sure this was against one of them. When Muriel does, she reads out "No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets" and the animals believe they had just forgotten the last part. The real irony here though is that Squealer explains it is all right, as they are only sleeping on bed with blankets! Moreover, Squealer brings it back to the pigs needing to for brainwork again and says the beds are not being "more comfortable than we need".
The next commandments to change is "No animal shall kill other animal". This happens not long after the confessions and executions of animals on the farm that were supposed traitors and in league with Snowball. After these executions, again Muriel, Clover and also Benjamin plus some other animals felt this did not square with this commandment. Once again, the pigs have changed the Commandments in order to justify their actions. The animals read the Commandment they though did not agree, "No animal shall kill other animal without cause", and then the animals see how really the Commandments had not been violated.
The commandment that changes next is "No animal shall drink alcohol". This commandments had been established in the first place as Jones had often come back drunk and the animals were able to see the effect on Mr Jones.
