The Moral Theories Of Mill And Kant

As I watched all the bowed heads and gloomy faces I realized how many lives our charity organization had touched. Just looking at the variety of people gathering together today: the old widowers; married teenage boys and girls; cross dressers in their strange apparel; lesbians unabashedly holding hands; and gays crying in each others shoulders. I quietly slipped out of the conference hall where our free counseling sessions were about to begin, my head dropped and my face gloomed much like all the others. They were all lost, lost in the crazy town, San Francisco. Trying to grasp the realization that our charity program no longer had the donations necessary to keep our doors open. Looking back over my shoulder at all the people, knowing that it wasn't even a busy counseling day, I sighed heavily as I tripped in my office door.
I carefully lifted the brief case from the floor dropping it harshly upon my desk. My fingers silently rubbed my foot, annoyed at the intrusive object that lay in my path. Rather quickly I poured my second cup of coffee then settled down among paper work, snapping the briefcase open. I couldn't help but gasp out loud, as steel blue eyes gazed over thousands of neatly wrapped bills. My fingers immediately began to count the stacks, $250,000, but my immediate excitement was at once abolished when the world's richest person, computer tycoon Gil Bates identification card fell out of the upper pocket. I searched the briefcase for a note, a letter; anything to explain it was a donation! My mind quickly began to spin as I found nothing more.
I knew Gil Bates had more money then he knew what to do with, He surely wouldn't be that upset about misplacing this amount. Having recently studied the moral theories of John Stuart Mill and Immanuel Kant, my mind was running. I knew I had a few choices, but which one was right? Donate the money to our charity, or return the money to Gil Bates?.
