I am here today to discuss with you a deadly epidemic. Something that ruins lives and even kills children your age on a daily basis. This epidemic doesn't come in the form of a virus or one that can be easily treated by medicine. This killer comes in the form of a plant, a bottle, a pill and a syringe. This epidemic we will discuss today will touch many homes wreaking havoc and destruction. Beware of this epidemic for it is so innocently called drugs. .
Illicit drug use among young adolescents is on the rise. In studies, it has been shown that females are more likely to use drugs to cope with problems. The earlier you choose to use drugs, the more likely you"ll experiment with more serious drugs as time progresses. The effect of a drug is based on many different things, for example your weight, gender, metabolism and genetic makeup. It is also a known fact that as the drug user takes drugs on a continuous basis, there is a need for the individual to use more and more just to get the same effect they were getting originally. .
Many drugs are very addicting. Tobacco, alcohol, and narcotics are all forms of drugs which you can become addicted to. Some factors that may influence whether or not the drug is addicting are how fast it takes effect, how the drug made you feel, how long the feeling lasts, and what kinds of withdrawals occur when you no longer take the drug.
Let's begin with our most legal drugs today, Alcohol and tobacco cigarettes. According to Web M.D., a reputable medical website, Nearly 100,000 Americans die each year as a result of alcohol and plays a role in half of the country's homicides, suicides, and traffic accidents. "The buzz" which sometimes consists of dizziness, loss of balance, coordination, impaired vision and slurred speech are all signs of Acute Alcohol Intoxication. When large amounts of alcohol are consumed, the effects can impair brain functions and in some cases cause death.
