The Light In The Forest

There were a few people who changed perceptions in this book but I will focus on True Son (Lenni Quis in Indian Language), Cuyloga, and Half Arrow. True Son, an American boy turned Indian, is taken from his tribe to go back to his white family. He highly disagrees with this decision as does his father, Cuyloga, and Half Arrow, a close friend. While Johnny (True Son) is living with his white family Half Arrow and Little Crane come to take him back to the tribe. During the rescue attempt Little Crane is killed. Johnny contemplates whether he should abandon his white family and leave behind his younger brother, Gordie. As hard as the decision is, Johnny decides to go back to his tribe with Half Arrow. Upon his arrival, a blissful welcoming awaits him, showing he has been missed, especially by his father. .
The Indian tribe goes on a hunt to kill white men. When a canoe comes to the shore, where the Indians are waiting to attack, Johnny pushes them away for he thinks of his white family. Now Johnny will be either burned or left alive for his wrongdoing through the eyes of his Indian people. Although he is spared his life, Cuyloga knows his son was now white. Cuyloga agreed with Half Arrow that he would no longer speak to True Son. They each parted ways, True Son to the white community and the Indians to their tribe. If he were ever to come back, he would be killed. Johnny, now knew he was white.
