This is basically saying that the person is messed up in the head, possessed, or insane. They do not take blame on themselves but blame it on these almost supernatural causes. A good example of this type of killer would be Angel Maturino Resendiz. His attorney told the jury that Resendiz believed that the supreme being was instructing him to rape and kill Dr. Claudia Benton in 1998 because she was an evil force. He admitted to 9 killings of the same sort and was sentenced to death in Texas (Killer 2).
The second type would be the mission oriented killer. Although not apparent to the community around them, killers of this type are on a mission to rid the world of those whom they deem unacceptable for whatever reason (Serial 2). They usually focus on a particular race, religion, or crime. The most famous serial killer that fits in this category would be Jack the Ripper, who killed only prostitutes. His personal feelings about prostitutes were negative and he took it out by killing those women in terrible ways. There are no voices in these killer's heads and no sexual tendencies. It is only the killer's personal feelings about a particular subject which thrives them to go on and kill.
The third killer would be the thrill-oriented type. These guys kill for the fun of it. They get a high from killing. Of the four types, this one is the one who enjoys killing very sadistically. He is into the killing for excitement and as he gets better and better, the crimes continue to escalate (Serial 2). The best example for this type would be Mickey and Mallory Knox from "Natural Born Killers." They enjoy every aspect of killing. They love the rush that the act of hunting human brings, they love the running from the police, and they love the media attention they get. How could someone enjoy killing so much?.
Finally there is the Lust Killer. The lust killer is sexually motivated, killing for the pure turn on.
