It was a cold snowy morning of my sixth grade year.
up and lit up the sparkling snowflakes that lay on the ground. School had been delayed due to the few inches of powdery snow that had fallen the night before. My brother Dave, my neighbor Ross, and I, were playing in this beautiful snow with my year old German Sheppard, Jenny. Jenny loved to play in the snow, and she also loved to take advantage of any chance to run away. She delighted in being chased.
Ross had Jenny by her leash, but he did not possess the strength to hold her. Jenny saw something of interest and decided to bolt toward it, and Ross being the weakling that he is lost his grip. As Jenny bolted off around the yard in utter stupidity, it took her awhile to realize our mishap and take full advantage of it. She began to sprint back and forth through our snow filled lot dodging her three baffled pursuers. Dave then snuck up on Jenny trying to grab her leash, but as he took hold of the leash, Jenny snapped forward breaking the mechanism that kept the leash closed, and thus beginning the real chase. .
Jenny now in the realization that she is free to roam takes off around our neighbors house, and in the process stirring up birds, squirrels, and rabbits that feed off the bird feeder in one way or another. Jenny is so excited by this that she almost gets caught by surprise as I dive at her, but she is too quick. She now runs back onto my deck. This is where we try to trap her. There are two stairways on my deck, so Ross and I took one as Dave took the other. Jenny feeling trapped tucks her ears back and puts her tail in between her legs. She then sees no other option but to run once again. She then proceeds to jump over the built in bench that lines the deck as Dave takes a dive and misses. She then bolts out of my backyard into the woods that surround it and lead into the next neighborhood. .
There is a path that leads from my neighborhood to the one behind it in my woods.
