The Great Pyramid


            It is no question, the Great Pyramid of Giza exceeds to be the best wonder of the world. The Great Pyramid is widely recognized for its enormous size, significance, and its virtually impossible creation. Unlike the other wonders of the world, the great pyramid of Giza still stands erect, reaching out to the heavens above. The great pyramid, to ones astonishment is added pleasure, to ones admiration respect, and to its lavishness splendor (Romer pg. 165). What is a pyramid? How did the idea of building a pyramid begin? Why did Egyptians put fourth so much effort to build this pyramid? .
             What are pyramids? Pyramids are four sided geometric characteristics. The four sides of the geometric shape funnel upward to form a point; therefore, shaping the pyramid similar to a triangle. The tradition of pyramid building started in ancient Egypt as a sophisticated idea of a mastaba or "platform" covering the royal tomb. Later, several stacks of mastaba were added to form a pyramid (). The tombs were created for rulers of Egypt who believed to be living gods on earth (Ryan pg.120). It is said, the pyramids rose to a point aiming at the heavens, where the ruler's soul would take its place among the immortal stars (Ryan pg. 120).
             Egyptian Pharoah Khufu of the fouth dynasty built the great Pyramid of Giza around 2560 B.C., to serve as a tomb when he died (Kufu's inside). Khufu ruled from 2589-2566 B.C, and was the son of king Sneferu and Queen Hetpeheres (Khufu's inside story). Egyptologists believe it took twenty years to build the great pyramid of Giza. The pyramid has an average of two million blocks, which weigh 2.5 tons each, and the heaviest blocks, used as the ceiling of Khufu's burial chamber, weigh in at approximately 40-60 tons (History of Giza). How is it possible that ancient Egyptians moved massive stones from quarries, both nearby and as far as 500 miles (History of Giza)? .
             The great pyramid has many amazing qualities.
