Telecommuting

             Developing a Telecommuting Program.
After deciding which employees will telecommute, the organization should now develop a successful telework program. In order for the program to be successful, the technical support should be of the highest quality, and a mutual contract must be formed between employer and employee.
The technical support should be of the highest quality. One company located in Jacksonville, Florida uses encryption technology, a form of high quality support, to transmit customer data to employee's homes and to ensure customer satisfaction (Larkin, 2000). An organization does not want to lose one deal or one customer, neither can it afford to, but this is exactly what will happen if the technical support is not of a high quality. For example, Bill, a telecommuting sales representative of a company, is discussing a deal with a customer via computer and the Internet. This customer is important to the company because she has a reputation of spending lots of money on the company's products. Bill's employers provided him with the cheapest Internet service it could find. Just as Bill is about to close the deal, his Internet service disconnects him from the customer. The customer feels angry and unappreciated, and she decides to take her money and business to another company. If Bill's employer would have provided him with higher quality technical support, he would have closed the deal, the company would not have loss money, and most importantly it would not have loss its customer. The profits the company would have made from the customer could have offset the cost of the high quality technical support. This was just one instance of why high quality technical support is important, but situations can get worse. High quality technical support is a must when an organization is implementing telework.
A mutual contract must be formed between employer and employee for understanding and clarity on both parts.
