This, just like any other commercial is hoping to pull in men who might have experienced this same situation, or a man with graying facial hair who is sitting at home with no woman and watching TV. The commercial is hoping to pull in its audience with an appealing intro and then of course show something great that they know people will want (i.e. beautiful woman) and then show a drastic change, then of course end the commercial proving that their product helped that person get where they are today.
Today's commercials are much more in depth then commercials used to be in the past. Commercials used to state the product, what it did, and then tell you where to find it or what number to call, but now commercials are so high priced and must compete with other commercials content and the time in which they air on television. Commercials have taken a more personal side so that the viewer feels drawn in and can relate to what is going on, and will hopefully want to either try the product out, or might know someone that the product will help.
I picked this particular commercial, because it worked for me in so many different ways. Though I"m not a male, I was sitting in a room with all males when I first saw this commercial, and got to see just how men reacted to a commercial that was geared toward them. At first all the men in the room thought it was a new sports center or sports report coming on television because of the anchors, using sports lingo and the sports report music playing in the background. When it was obvious that it was just a commercial, the attention that was once there diminished but then regained when the beautiful woman stepped into the scene. There was laughter after the man was obviously "dissed" (shunned) by the woman and then disbelief when she took him back just because his beard was brown. .
As for me this commercial was probably one of the best I have ever seen.
