Stupidity Is A Normal Phenomenon

With a decision that angered the Italian government, both men were acquitted. They were later court martialed a second time when it was discovered that they destroyed a videotape that had been recording from the plane on the day that the cable car wire was clipped. Judging from their behavior, they compounded their professional incompetence with criminal stupidity.
             The Greek vase painting, circa 450 A.D., depicts the union of Pandora and Epimetheus, while his brother Prometheus, and Zeus look on. Pandora is recognized as the first woman and the ultimate pariah. All of the plagues and sorrows known to humanity were released once Pandora opened the box given to her by Zeus. Epimetheus and his brother Prometheus were responsible for the creation of man and animals, placing within each gift from the gods. Epimetheus gave out all the best gifts to the animals, leaving the humans for last. Too late he realized that he had given nothing to humans. He asked his brother Prometheus for help. Prometheus fashioned men in the shape of gods, and brought fire from mount Olympus to the cold starving humans. He also arranged for them to have the best part of the animal sacrificed, and the gods the worst. For this trickery, Zeus punishes the brothers by creating the woman Pandora, who foolishly opens the box against all warnings not to. When I interpreted this story, there seemed to be a chain of brainless acts that could lead directly back to Epimetheus. Epimetheus is known to see things only afterwards; he is shown to understand too late, and to forget. A thread of forgetfulness links those acts resembling stupidity. Prometheus is characterized by acute foreknowledge and special clarity, perhaps something like alertness. He must have been aware of the consequences of his actions, due to his ability at foresight. Pandora, the most foolish of all, chose not to heed the warnings of Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Zeus.
