Talented Or Opinionated

This stimulates developing their individuality. In her article "The Truth about the Japanese Educational System," Susan Read states that the Japanese compulsory education ends at Jr. High; therefore, students must start studying very hard at an early age. This will only make the students study and lose their time to play. Ironically, although Japanese companies tend to choose the person who has individuality, "Japanese early end of compulsory education does make the students lose their individuality." In America, compulsory education lasts until high school, causing the students to have more free time than Japanese students. This allows American students to develop their talents. .
The Japanese testing in these schools is also another way to bewilder and devastate the students. The Japanese teachers only give mid-terms and final exams to grade the students. It can cause the students to not pay attention to the class and only study one or two weeks before the test. After they have good test results, the things they learned or memorized can soon be forgotten. This is because they tried to remember everything in such a short period. According to the American Educational Service Group, the American testing method however will help the students understand and know the material fully, for they have tests every week. They must keep on studying in order to get a good grade. Japanese teachers value their students only by the grades they get on the test. On contrast, American teachers value their efforts they put into the class. This shows the student mistakes are understandable, and gives the student nothing to fear causing the students to realize that expressing opinions is apart of our everyday lives. With the Japanese way of teaching, this may cause the students to be afraid to go out into society and voice their thoughts unless their opinions are the same as others.
Another main difference between the systems is the relationship between the student and teacher.
