.
2.4. The problem of extraneous variables is always a big factor for any psychological experiment but there was a general consensus that the only extraneous variable that would be likely to influence the results in this particular experiment would be background noise. Consequently, the interview room was a very quiet room which let in minimal noise. .
             Participants:.
2.4 Theoretically, anyone who was competent in reading would have been able to do the test but the researcher primarily interviewed undergraduate students as it was agreed that they would provide more representative and consistent results. .
2.5 The sample was generated by randomly asking people within the college to participate in the study. Opportunity sampling was used as no other forms of stratification were deemed to be pertinent. .
             Apparatus:.
2.2. Microsoft office was used to make the word list tables and to colour the font of the words in. This was done because writing manually could had, in theory, interfered with the participants performance in naming the colour. .

2.7. The particular individual doing the experiment was then issued the independent variable word sheet from the stroop condition. Subsequently, he was advised to read out the colour of the words as fast as possible.
2.8. In order to measure the dependent variable the researcher used a stop clock and after the participant had said his/her last word the watch was stopped immediately. .
2.8. The same procedure was replicated for the stroop condition after all the individuals had completed the control condition. .
2.9. The dependent variable was then recorded into a laptop computer and formulated using a statistical package. The time the individuals took to complete the task was shown using graphs, although, the researcher also used other statistical techniques such as the mean.
