Sovereignty And The Kyoto Protocol

             Supporting and Opposing Ratification .
In November 1992 a document entitled Warning to Humanity was released to the scientific community, and was signed by many national academies of science, more than 1500 scientists, and the director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The document's message was clear, stating that "human beings and the natural world are on a collision course,"" which "may so alter the living world that it will be unable to sustain life in the manner that we know."".
The problems facing the environment today are vast and diverse. Air pollution and the emission of greenhouse gases are just some of the problems that will reach critical proportions in the coming decades.
Since the following Rio Declaration in 1992, which dealt with the environment and climate change, representatives from more than 160 countries have met regularly to discuss how to reduce worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, thereby slowing the rate of global warming.
In 1997, representative met in Kyoto, Japan and produced an agreement known as the Kyoto protocol which is an agreement that commits agreeing countries to reduce their greenhouse gases by the year 2012 to the levels that they were at in 1990. Greenhouse gases(like carbon dioxide) are most often created as a result of burning fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and oil. The acceptance of the Kyoto protocol is one of two steps; in 1997, countries who accepted the purposes of the accord as valid goals signed the protocol and then had much time to deliberate and suggest amendments to the protocol. The second step is to ratify the protocol, which is to accept and commit the country to the targets of the accord.
Since the signing of the Kyoto accord by most countries in 1997, the idea of climate change and global warming has risen to an all-time high. In advertising, selling points that are offered to the public include environmentally friendly factors, which is a response to society's new heed of the delicate balance of the environment.
