Silence Of The Lambs-camera Work

This also adds to the effect of the intimidation beginning to build up in Clarice. The camera then begins to alternate from Clarice's view of the corridor as she walks to Lecter's cell and shots of the chair she is to sit in while talking with Lecter. The camera follows alongside of Clarice to show a brief image of the other psycho inmates she must pass in order to reach Lecter's cell. When Clarice first meets Dr. Lecter high key lighting is used with alternating close up shots of Lecter's pale blue eyes and medium close ups of Clarice. This is to show the intimidation from Clarice grow as Dr. Lecter begins to "play with her mind". The camera's low angle shots show the fear Clarice has at first, but she stands strong. When the camera shows Clarice leaving the institution she has a flashback. The flashback is of her as a child with her widowed father. This is the ending of the introductory sequence in my opinion. This flashback later leads to the reason the movie gets its title from. The introductory sequence has now established a base of the film for the viewer. Without telling too much this sequence has given the viewer just enough information to keep them at the edge of their seats wanting to watch the rest of the film. Now the viewer has been introduced to the main characters of the film. Starting with Clarice Starling, who the viewer knows has grown up in West Virginia and is very persistent, is the film's star. Already the viewer can begin to build an image for this character. She seems to be very brave and goal oriented, and wants nothing more than to be an official agent in the FBI. She has problems from childhood that still bother her today, which are also shown later in the film. Her goal in this film is to stop this serial murder along with the help of Dr. Hanibal Lecter. The next main character is Hanibal Lecter, whom we know is from Baltimore. He has some kind of a European accent and his intelligence is amazing.
