People decide putting others and themselves in danger of a car accident when using their cell phone while driving. Many tragic stories have come about because of such a choice made by a driver with a cell phone. For example "the 2-and-1/2-year-old daughter of Patricia Pena was killed in 1999 when the family's car was rammed by a vehicle whose driver ran a stop sign while talking on a cell phone". {f} The "model Niki Taylor was severely injured when a car she was riding in crashed into a utility pole. The driver said he looked down to answer his cell phone before the car ran off the road."{f} the list goes on.              Unfortunately, in all the research it has yet to be proven that cell phones are the main cause for car accidents. According to Bryan Knowles "no U.S. studies have proven that cell phones cause accidents."{f} Then what can the government do to make the number of deaths decrease? Smart Motorist feel that using new technology like "voice-activated dialing, built-in phones, headsets, and speaker phones; all can help drivers concentrate on the roadway."{f} They also state "Since 1995, 40 states have proposed bills concerning cellular phone use in cars, but the $40-billion-a-year cell-phone industry has successfully lobbied to keep those laws off the books.
