A person, and a group, must have a plan for handling problems and stress (Newman, pg 1). Problems and stress are a fact of life. You will always have problems, disappointments, and struggles.
To achieve on how I could breakthrough in how I approach problems, deal with stress, and to achieve my desired results I must ask myself some basic questions (Newman, pg 11):.
1. How is my current approach affecting my current effectiveness, health, and happiness?.
2. What is my current approach to dealing with problems and stress? What's working? What's not working? What's missing?.
3. What is the secret in being in control when dealing with problems and stress?.
Once I answered the above questions, I was in a better position to establish a personal effectiveness plan. .
My plan consisted of several factors. The first was to identify the problem that was causing the stress I was experiencing. After I identified the problem at hand, I was able to develop many possible solutions to engage to assist in the resolution of the problem. After careful consideration of the possible solutions I identified the one that would enable me to achieve my overall goal, the relief of stress.
Stress would still be around me. It will be radiating from all other people around me. In order not to allow this stress to fully affect me I had to derive another strategy on handling other people stress. .
The plan that I developed was to ensure that I have an allotted time to work out all other people's problems. By this I do not mean actually solving their problems, I was referring setting time out of the day do some running or other form of physical exercise. Before I actually would listen to their problem and it became mine, now I will listen but leave it at the work out. The work out ensures that the problem does not become mine as well. To this day, it does seem to be working well, but there is always room for improvement in the process.
