Have you ever lost a loved one or a true friend that you hold dear to your heart? Most people have experienced this because death is something that exist and will continue to be present in the life we live in. Even though death is something that is in constant occurrence it still brings about the question of why. This is when God comes into the picture. Since an individual has never seen God's face, has no proof of his existence, one can only reach God through faith. Faith is truly an essential in understanding and overcoming the effects of death. An individual by the name of Alfred Lord Tennyson shows how faith serves as a healer to the mind body and soul in one of his masterpieces In Memoriam: A.A.H. Tennyson wrote this piece of literature after he learned that his beloved friend and companion Arthur Henry Hallam had died suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of twenty-two. In this elegy, or a poem in memory and praise of one who has died, Tennyson displays how at first he struggles with faith and his level of commitment to faith, but throughout the years he grows strong in faith and comes to self-realization of life and death.
In the beginning of Tennyson's writing he gives the reader the picture of him in an immense amount of pain and despair over his beloved friend. Tennyson is very confused by how God can take the life of a young, talented, and loving person. Tennyson is very lost and bewildered by this unexpected death. At this point in the poem Tennyson's faith in God is presented to the reader. His faith seems to be very bleak in existence. He is furious because his heart is filled with such great sorrow and grief. Tennyson at this point has not yet conceived this loss into the bigger picture that God has planned for each and ever individual. Tennyson portrays to be questionable about his faith and understanding why God has brought about this horrific pain in his heart.
