Personal assessment is a necessary step in determining your personal development needs, according to your current situation and future aspirations. To properly assess yourself different aspects of your life must be analyzed, including your personal learning style, values, interests, skills and your personality. Once you have analyzed these components you can begin to formulate a strategic plan that you will be able to follow to reach your goals and help you make intelligent career choices. .
Understanding your personal learning style can help you determine which situations and careers offer you the best potential for success. Putting yourself in situations favorable for your learning style will allow you to thrive. Situations not suitable for your learning style may leave you feeling frustrated and unsuccessful. For example, since I am a type 2 learner (McCarthy 46-51) I prefer to work independently. I am highly organized and efficient, I work well in a structured environment and I am a detail oriented individual that relies on factual data and logic I work well with a set agenda and prefer to have a structured time line to complete projects. My learning style type is part of the reason I excel working in the accounting field. Accounting is a very structured environment and workers need to be extremely detail oriented. I would be less successful if I worked in an environment that relied on theory and hypothesis. .
To achieve a clear vision in your life, it is also essential to determine what values are most important and put them in a hierarchy; this will assist you in making educated choices regarding your future and your career. Values are always part of a decision, though at times they might be difficult to detect. My hierarchy of values is as follows: .

• Family .
• Trust .

• Personal Growth / Learning .
