Misunderstood, Misjudged, Mistreated

Although there are many resources indicating that women under the Taliban rule in Afghanistan is very very unfair, many of these women are either afraid to speak out for fear of their lives, or they have just learned to accept it. For example, women under Taliban rule are not allowed to see a doctor for women's needs because male's are not allowed to touch females that are not related to them, and there is no such thing as a female doctor (Skaine 63). Many women in Afghanistan will get stoned to death for wearing the wrong color socks, or for not covering up the proper way (Skaine 61). Women in this society are treated as second-class citizens. They are allowed to do certain things only when the male gives them permission. These details of the treatment of women by the Taliban, and other things may have been some of the causes why after the attacks the Muslim religion was attacked even more. The perception that every single Muslim woman was being treated the way the Taliban treated their women, and many of us that have total freedom just could not understand that may have possibly led the way to even more discrimination. .
Although many people here in the United States could not understand why women under Taliban control could live the way they did, they did not sympathize with any Muslim woman here in the United States. They did not feel sorry for them, rather many were attacked because they let themselves be ruled in such a manner, and because many felt that perhaps they agreed with what the Taliban was doing since they did not fight for their rights. Therefore, women who wore the hijab have been said to be targeted far more for the obvious reason. One Muslim high school girl that was interviewed for a National Geographic article reported that she was going on vacation, and while at an American airport, security saw her mother and sisters with the hijab, and they immediately pointed them out, specifically searched her family down intensively and not any of the other passengers (National Geographic.
