Secular Vs Formal Religions

The Following paragraphs will compare the things that can be found in a traditional religion (Hinduism and Christianity) with those of a new-age secular religion (sports). .
Hinduism is a major world religion, with an estimated 700 million followers worldwide. Hinduism has not always been as we know it today, it has spread worldwide and has absorbed elements from other already established religions. The corresponding influence of these various religions on Hinduism has greatly contributed to the religion's syncretism-the wide variety of beliefs and practices that it encompasses. Moreover, the geographic, rather than ideological, basis of the religion (the fact that it comprises whatever all the people of India have believed and done) has given Hinduism the character of a social and doctrinal system that extends to every aspect of human life. Hinduism is a vast subject and an elusive concept to grasp. Essentially to be a Hindu today is to believe in the Hindu way of life and to follow it to the best of ones ability which is assisted through formalized norms.
Christianity is another religion that encompasses a formailsed doctrine. Christians believe in a living Christ, not a dead hero and items such as the crucifix and the cross have become important symbols of the suffering Savior and the risen Lord. Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the day on which Jesus rose have become holy days. It is believed that Jesus through dying took the responsibility for the sins of the human race, reconciling humankind with God and God with humankind. Those who are Christians therefore believe that not only are they saved from their sins but also look forward to the day where Jesus will come again and judge all the living and the dead and those that have been faithful and good will ascend into heaven. Until that day Christians believe that the Spirit of God lives in them, and guides and strengthens them in their pilgrimage on earth.
