Anthem

The book Anthem touches on many important subjects that Ayn Rand placed in the book to tell people about. One of the primary purposes behind the book is to project that everyone needs to be themselves and should be different from everyone else. Ayn Rand is also trying to incorporate that people must view things from different perspectives, but at the same time must keep their own views in mind. Equality 7-2521 was the prime subject that shows his journey to individualism. Through his journey he found the importance of being segregated from everyone else and found the joy on being dependant on himself only. The beginning of the book showed a different side of Equality then the end of the book did. .
At the Beginning of the book Equality found himself being bossed around by society as if he were a puppet on their strings. Equality didn't even think of individuality, he only thought about what was good and bad for himself and his brothers. "It is a sin to write this. It is a sin to think words no others think and put them down upon a paper no others to see." (p.17) His journey began when he stole the manuscripts from the council and used the paper to put down what he thought and had no one else's opinion on the paper. After he stole the manuscripts he scurried into a tunnel where he uses the time to gain more knowledge in solidarity. He explores the tunnel, which he escaped to, to see what no brother has seen before him and wants to learn more about his surroundings. Not only is Equality's journey for independence but also at the same time he's on a race to gain more knowledge and to become a more intelligent person than he already is. The fact that Equality became a street sweeper shows that he has a high intelligence. Society puts the smart people into horrible jobs so that they can't over throw their government system. On the other side many of the people that lack common knowledge are placed to higher authority positions to maintain peace and "equilibrium" in which they live.
