This great biography by Rob Thomas is a down to earth book. It is a must read if you like to read biographies. Rob Thomas did a great job on Rats Saw God.

Steve York, a straight A student at Houston, at first is doing really good. He has lots of friends and has no problems at home. Later his mom and his dad get a divorce and his mom and his sister move to San Diego. Steve is still doing well except; the girl who he went to the dance with and he dated is having sexual intercourse with a teacher. His home life is not at all good either. Steve's dad, a famous astronaut, tries to set high expectation limits for his son. Since the divorce, Steve's dad doesn't like to come home anymore. This starts to cause problems since now Steve doesn't have anyone to set a good example for him. Steve is confused about life and questions why he should try hard to do anything.
Steve joins a group of like-minded kids that start a club and call it GOD, which stands for Grace Order of Dadaists. This rebellion causes him to try new things like drugs. He also does not try as hard in school, which will make it very hard for him to pass later on in his high school years. Steve is sick of his dad not being home so he packs up and moves to his mom and sister's house in San Diego. Steve's senior year consists of parties and drugs. One of the things that does not matter in his life and should is school. Steve barely gets by his senior year. He is not passing his English class. The only option he has is to either write a one hundred page report on anything or to go to summer school. So a counselor helps Steve decide what to do. The counselor wants him to write five pages at a time and turn them in. Does Steve finish the paper on time? Does Steve ever get back up and start to try again? Will he forgive his ex-girlfriend?.

The main character is Steve York. I only have one main character because it is a biography. Steve York was a smart kid until he started not to care and started to do drugs.
