In august 1, 1988, my life was affected in a great way. It was my first time on a commercial airliner going first class to Puerto Rico; the first people I met were my grand parents. They took care of me while I was there. As my grand parent; and I made our way to the car, all the vegetation amazed me and sweet smells the islands flowers brought me joy. When I arrived at the house, I met my cousins. They hardly spoke English but I understood what they were saying.
During my stay in Puerto Rico I encountered many strange animals. One animal that amazed me was a spotted millipede. The insect had many legs that moved in a pattern like the oceans waves. As the bug crawled on my skin, it tickled me as if a feather had brushed up against me. The millipede was whit in color and had red spots running alongside its body. The spots were similar to the rising sun on the Japanese flag.
It was my first time on a tropical beach and it was great. The sand was fine and cool to the touch. The water was 75 degrees and had a crystal blue look it to it. When I walked through the water, beautiful fish swam around my legs. The fish were mesmerizing; they had shades of bright blue with black spots. Some were yellow with spots. Scattered all over the beach were huge peaces of rock that I could stand on and watch the hypnotic horizon as it meets the clear blue sky. The rocks were brown in color and riddled with holes like a sponge. In the holes and crevices lay sea urchins, which I was very afraid of because I thought they could sting. .
Overall I had wonderful time. Most kids do not get a chance to go to exotic paradise but I dod. I had learned a lot about Puerto rico. I learned about, my culture, my people and the animals that live there.
