             The following are some of the several legal standards/rationales that police officers are suppose to use for "stops" that are reasonable with suspicion: (1) person in area of crime or where suspicious activity was reported, (2) suspicious behavior, (3) suspicious clothing, and (4) location--seeming to be out of place. These are just some of the many things that police can stop you for, but they must always keep in mind to make stops that arouse reasonable suspicion only (Stop & Frisk Report: chapter 5). While from an FBI Crime Statistics, it shows that police officers will scrutinize people of specific racial ethnic background more than others because they believe that they are more likely the kind of people to commit these kinds of crimes. Here are two finds from the FBI Crime Statistics: (1) black neighborhoods are 35 times more violent then white neighborhoods and (2) blacks commit 50% more violent crimes than whites are to commit (Lundy 2000). .
             And to add to the above findings, is the story of my brother, Zack, who was questioned by a police officer for just walking home. We all had grown up in a very diverse part of Seattle, called Mount Baker. It was a community that had families of many ethnic backgrounds. But Cascadia, our neighborhood, was the part of the community that was mostly white and had people with upper class income. The story is of my brother, Zack. .
             Zack, who is African-American. He was just walking home from school one day. As he was walking home he was stopped by a police officer just a few steps away from our driveway. The police officer asked my brother "do you belong in this neighborhood?" My brother said his house was just around the corner and the police officer was like "ok" and left.
