Dance

Also, to add vivid images to the routine, projections were used to display shady, faint images of stripes and waves onto the dancer's bodies, which made them appear more like objects rather than people. The projection effects gave the routine a scientific, technological feel, which reminded me of The Matrix. .
Although I did not perceive a definite message throughout the piece I felt the purpose of this routine was to provoke the audience to think "outside the box". This routine could possibly symbolize different things to different people. The underlying message that I received from this work was that human beings are easily manipulated in this world because they do not think for themselves; they allow others influence their ability to imagine greater possibilities. This message was displayed through the portrayal of humans as objects as well as the similar movements executed by the dancers. It was almost as if the dancers wanted to separate from the group and do their own movement, but they still had some connection to the rest of the dancers, causing their actions to a remain somewhat comparable. I feel that the motivation of this piece is to be different and to spark diverse thinking among the audience. Modern dance is forever changing and molding to what is new and different, and I feel this work accomplishes this challenge. Although, African dance changes with time, I do not notice any similarities between this work and the movement that we do in class. The African dance movements that we execute in class are focused on the middle part of the body rather than the ground and do not acquire much space. When I am dancing in class, I feel like I am in my own personal bubble, therefore I rarely interact with others on the dance floor. However, it was enlightening to witness another style of dance.
"Baifall" was a routine that consisted of 35 musicians with a rhythm section played by the Lamb and the Meung Meung.
