The book that I chose to read was A Child Called It by David Pelzer. This book dealt with a lot of issues such as child abuse and neglect, self-esteem issues, basic needs as a child which is basically a childs developmental needs, a childs attachment to parent. When a child is born they develop a bond between both parents a bond that forms naturally, just as an animals young develops a form of attachment as soon as it is born. The majority of the time a parent may beat their child because their life isn't going as they planned or they feel their life is the shambles, they take it out on the weakest person they can think of someone who is not able to fight back, a person who is helpless in their own manner, a child is unable most of the time to protect themselves they look to their parental figures to help them. How can they the parental figure help them if their the one that's abusing them. A child looks to the parent to show them moral values, as the saying goes " do unto others as you would want done unto you" and "don't do unto others that you would not want done to you". They look to the parent to show them the ways of life so that they can become respectful and successful adults in the future. Parents are the most influential factor in a child's life without these things a child's developmental needs are not being met. A child that is beaten in my opinion is stripped of most of their dignity and pride about themselves. This starts a chain reaction of negative things like the child will probably turn out to be a problem child doing bad things that another child their age would not do, acting out to get attention because they are not getting any at home, they are so eager for attention they do not even care if it negative or positive attention that they receive. .
There are occasion when a child grows up in a family where in the beginning their life was like any other normal life, family outings, loving parents who give a child the basic necessity he or she needs in life, being a normal kid, and having a normal average life.
