             To compare and contrast the Athenians to the United States today as we all know it is actually pretty simple. When I say this I mean that almost all of the issues the Athenians have dealt with we as Americans deal with everyday. We are also a country that opens up it's military and it's country to the world. We let millions of people come and go through this country as they please. We do this knowing that there can be and probably will be many consequences resulting from this. We let people of any color and ethnicity in to our country. During war we also usually march into foreign soil alone and fighting off many different races of people. I am going to use the Iraq war on terror as an example. We marched thousands and thousands of are soldiers into battle on foreign soil to stop a madman from tearing this world apart. We like the Athenians do not like going to battle but we also will stand up for what we believe in and always try to do the right thing. To contrast the Athenians military to the United States military today is the fighting style for the most part. What I mean by this is that most of the wars these days are fought from the air and from a distance. There is not much hand-to-hand combat used in war anymore. .
             Pericles stated in his speech that they used a democracy in their city because it favors many people instead of just a few. It did not matter if the Athenian was at the top or the bottom of the food chain your opinion was still taking into consideration. People were also free to do what one wishes. The people of Athens had to follow the laws but were free to do as they please on their own time. The Athenian's although maybe not agreeing with what others did on their time but they still did not judge them or think any less of them. .
             To compare the democracy of the Athens and the United States is fairly simple considering there is not much difference in the two systems.
