Othello

(II.i.222) Iago leads him to believe Des will cheat with Cassio, to deter this Iago tells Roderigo he must start a fight with Cassio. In the mist of the fight the Governor grabs Cassio and Cassio stabs him, leading the town set off by Roderigo.
Soon after the confrontation, Othello arrives to see what is all about all the commotion and he demands to know who started the fight. Iago tells Othello the story, that he has generated and created and then Othello strips Cassio of his title and position as Lieutenant. Cassio is so upset that he confides in Iago that his life is over and that his reputation is ruined. Iago tells him not to worry because one day he will once again be in Othello's good graces.
In an attempt to make things right between himself and Othello Cassio sends musicians to play for Othello. Othello will hear nothing of it and turns the musicians away. Cassio then takes the chance to set up a meeting with Des from the clown who came and sent the band away. He asks for Emilia help with the matter at hand. Des meets with Cassio and she understands his heart ache and promises to do all she can to bring the men to better terms. While Cassio is leaving Othello approaches and Cassio knowing Othello is upset walks away and does not speak to him. This situation is the beginning of Othello's jealousy, with no help for Cassio from Iago, who suggest they are having an affair. Des asks Othello to re-instate Cassio's rank and position, convincing him of the affair. Othello becomes sick before dinner and Des offers him her hanky and he refuses and drops Des's handkerchief on the floor, which Emilia secretly picks up and gives to Iago to start a plan of devastation.
Iago then plants the handkerchief in Cassio's room as evidence of the affair. Othello demands "ocular proof that Des is cheating." (III.iii.365) Iago mentions that he has seen Cassio "wipe his beard" (III.iii.444) with Des's hanky.
