Who am I? Where do I come from? What do I want from life? How will I obtain it? What are my beliefs and values?.
I was born in 1983; just two years after the devastating epidemic of AIDS came to the forefront. In the early 80s, Michael Jackson was establishing his reign as the king of pop, MTV was in its infancy, and rap music was the controversial topic of much debate. I came into a changing yet, exciting world that had yet to truly define itself.
I am truly a city girl at heart but, since my father was a Master Sergeant in the US Air Force, I have lived in various places ranging from California to New York and Canada to Mexico. Traveling introduced me to a number of cultures and customs within the US as well as neighboring countries. Each place that I have lived has a special place in my heart because of the people I met there or experiences I may have had but there is a disadvantage with constantly moving. Because I became accustomed to leaving behind houses, schools, and friends so often, I never knew the meaning of home. Now that I have been in one place for more than four years, I understand what "home" is all about. Still, I have the urge to move on and gain a new home at a university that will embrace my diverse past and help to cultivate my mind for the future.
I have often been branded a "military brat" because of my lifestyle thus far; however, that assumption couldn't be farther from the truth. My mother is a positive influence in my life and she taught me the value of self-discipline, hard work, determination, patience, and humbleness. Having those values instilled at me from a young age has helped me to grow and mature into a strong, creative, and motivated person. .
I have been described as both a dreamer and an activist because I take action to bring my dreams to reality. As a result, I have been a part of a variety of organizations and achieved many honors.
