And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. Luke 15:11-32.
I've read the parable of the Prodigal's son. I choose this parable because there was a deep understanding that came about when I read it about the emotions and feelings, characters, and actions throughout the story. I took in more when I imagined myself in the place of both the father and son, and I was able to learned some lessons from it, too. This parable gave a brief explanation of our relationship with God, which is seen through the father and son. Also, I feel that it has many symbol and meanings.
The setting changes a lot throughout this parable. In the beginning, the father and his son are on the farm. The sky is bright and blue and between the father and son there is a strong, happy bond. When the son goes away, the sky turns dark and there is a hopeless feeling in the air. The father feels sad and desperate that his son will never return again. The son feels carefree and wants to be on his own until he is treated badly from a poor job and feels hurt for sinning against his father. He decides that he must return home and beg for forgiveness. When he returns home, the mood becomes bright and cheerful. His father feels grateful to have his son home, and he forgives him. .
In the parable of the lost son, there was a father who had two sons. The younger son asked his father for his share of the money for working on their farm, and he packed his belongings and left the farm where they lived.
