OS2

Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Computeria there was a little OS (as some of the citizens of Computeria were referred to) called DOS. DOS was a good little OS, and he ran all the applications people wanted mostly Lotus 1-2-3 (an accounting spreadsheet). If there was a need to run more than one application, DOS simply stopped what he was doing and started something else. Dos was good and everyone in Computeria was happy. .
But time was not on Dos's side; computers were becoming more powerful and more popular, computer users (as some of the other citizens of Computeria were referred to) required their computers to do more and more. One of the wizards of Computeria came up with the idea that perhaps people would like to run more than one a program at a time.
The wizard took the idea to the castles of IBM and Microsoft who despite their apparent marriage still lived in separate castles. The two Parents of DOS, Microsoft and IBM (though some say DOS was adopted or worse yet stolen from his real parents), came up with the notion of replacing DOS or at least Getting him a brother, they wanted an OS which could run more than one application, and wouldn't fear the dreaded 640k boundary. Legend had it that the boundary was an imaginary line which could not be crossed and Dos believed in it with all his might. Another child was born to the proud parents, Microsoft and IBM, and it was named OS/2. IBM truly wanted to call it DOS 5.0, but Microsoft did not for reasons which later became apparent, and big softie IBM gave in. The new child named OS/2 was really really bad, and he scared a lot of people away. Microsoft then had another child without IBM, a new DOS child, which they called Win Dos. His full name ended up being Windows. Microsoft then divorced IBM and abandoned OS/2 completely. IBM got custody of OS2, and Microsoft spent all of its time doting over Windows. .
OS/2 floundered for a while because he was not that strong and was still suffering from the break up of Microsoft and IBM.
