I was cautious as I passed these youths because I sensed that they were angry and that the group lacked stability. They did not know the person who owned the Rolls Royce but clearly they felt a strong antipathy towards him.
Thirdly, There is the Jozefow Massacre when the Reserve police Battalion 101 had the task of rounding up the 1800 Jews and of shooting the women, children and elderly. Josefow is some distance to the east of here in the Lublin District.
Fourthly there is the social, political and administrative process and apparatus that planned and organised the execution of destructive violence on a scale previously unheard of. What some have called the logic of destruction.
I shall return to these four examples so, if you can, hold them in mind. Now I want to begin at the very beginning. Bear with me, many people think that I am completely crazy when I say what I am about to say but I think that it has some relevance to the rest of the seminar. .
Here is a photograph of a little baby. (second slide) Does he look very happy? No I don't think so and why should he? He has just come through a pretty tough time and is not sure what kind of world he enters. We have a better idea in general terms. If he is born in the affluent north he has some chance of a good life but if he is in some other parts of the world he may have great difficulty. But we also know that he may be born in reasonably secure surroundings and still have a disturbed and difficult life.
The birth experience is the first external experience of anxiety and becomes the template for all later anxiety situations. The experience of birth, with its loss of the womb, the pain and the discomfort is experienced by the baby as an attack, as a persecution.
Thus the baby's first experience with the outside world is connected to persecutory anxiety. If we then continue with this thought the baby then enters into a relationship with the mother and initially the feeding breast of the mother.
